APISC is the Asian Pacific Islander Student Caucus at West Valley. Our mission is to grow our on-campus community through sharing and educating others of various cultures. We aim to provide a safe space for students to express and celebrate their unique backgrounds. Our officer team comprises Theresa Vu as President, Vice President Allison Chen, Treasurer Alexia Manasan, Secretary Crystal Mai, Marketing Director Harita Sunkara, and Outreach Director Samuel Leyva.
We kicked off this semester with our first meeting covering the Mid-Autumn festival and getting to know our new members with some boba from Teaspoon. At our second general meeting, we celebrated Filipino American Heritage Month where our members made their own Halo Halo, a popular Filipino dessert with shaved ice, milk, and various toppings.
At our remaining meetings, we plan to celebrate Japan’s Culture Day, Diwali, and many more Asian and Pacific Islander cultures. We are also planning on hosting workshops and socials with other API groups at other campuses. In the Spring, we are working on a collaboration with ASWVC to host a Lunar New Year Event for all students and an end-of-the year AAPI Month Night Market.
Our club is open to all students regardless of ethnicity, and we meet biweekly on Mondays from 3:45-4:45 PM in FOX 101 unless stated otherwise. Along with our in-person meetings, we also offer Zoom for members who cannot attend.
